After almost a month of NFL free agency, the Detroit Lions have yet to fix their pass rush.
It's the biggest concern left for their roster, especially with the free agent options having mostly disappeared.
Still, it appears the Lions remain on the hunt for potential solutions in free agency.
They recently met with a free agent who spent the 2024 season in the NFC North.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Lions met with former Bears edge DeMarcus Walker last week.
There aren't many great options left out there for the Lions to pursue and the incoming draft class is low on guys who consistently produced in college, but Walker still isn't the solution to the Lions' pass rush problems.
Walker had just 3.5 sacks in 17 games for the Bears this past season. In 2023, he also had 3.5. He has only reached five sacks once in his NFL career.
The 39 pressures Pro Football Focus credited him with in 2024 look a bit better, but not enough to make up for the sack numbers.
The Lions already have a veteran with production concerns who they can start as their second edge and Marcus Davenport's highs were higher while his lows can be at least partially blamed on injuries.
A platoon of questionable options really doesn't seem like the answer on the edge for the Lions. If they're going to bring in a veteran, it should be somebody they can confidently play ahed of Davenport.
Otherwise, they are going to be relying heavily on Aidan Hutchinson to carry their pass rush.
It's something he's certainly capable of, but not what the Lions should want if their goal is a Super Bowl.
It's good that the Lions are still out there working on answers to their edge problem, but Walker isn't the right answer for them right now.
