Lions RB Draws Comparison To Reggie Bush

The Detroit Lions lost their offensive coordinator, and not having Ben Johnson anymore could be a huge blow.

Fortunately for them, they have more than enough players to get by.

Notably, that includes Jahmyr Gibbs, who was recently listed as the third-best running back in the NFL in a survey conducted by ESPN that included coaches, executives and scouts.

One of them went as far as to compare Gibbs to a notable former star.

“He’s a lot like Reggie Bush, just with a little bit more power,” an AFC executive said. “Size will always be a little bit more of an issue with him, but his speed and instincts and ability to change the game are a problem and may be the best in the league.”

Gibbs trails Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry on the list, which seems fair.

With 20 touchdowns, Gibbs was the first Lions player to lead the league since Barry Sanders scored 17 in 1991.

At 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, Gibbs’ combination of speed and strength is unusual.

He averaged 6.4 yards per touch last season, which was the highest mark by any player with at least 250 touches in a single season in the past decade.

The Lions have put together a powerful combo with him and David Montgomery, and having the veteran by his side has helped Gibbs stay fresh and keeps opposing defenses guessing and dealing with different looks.

Gibbs showed that he could operate as the lead back as well, putting up 365 yards on 64 carries in three games Montgomery missed.

The Lions are hungry for revenge after a disappointing end to last season, and Gibbs will be crucial to their aspirations again.
