Cutdown time is the hardest time there is for teams. Sometimes they have to get rid of guys they really like because there just isn't room. For the Detroit Lions, they had a hard move when they cut linebacker Abraham Beauplan after a solid camp and preseason.
The former Viking signed with the Lions in early August and had just a few weeks to impress. He did just that. He had a really good game against the Chiefs. A game so good that Pro Football Focus gave him a 90.1 grade. He had another good game against the Steelers in Week 3.
Ultimately Ben Niemann had been around longer and the Lions went with him. Now Beauplan is back
His return comes at a good time. Derrick Barnes is out for at least the next four games and while the Lions have a deep linebacker corps, they could look to bring Beauplan in to give him a shot with practice squad elevations over the next few weeks.
Even if they don't, he's a guy that you could see being in the building for the rest of the year and maybe play a bigger role in 2025. Beauplan is still just 24-years-old. He's a solid project if there ever was one.
This signing will mean that the Lions are going to have to part ways with someone on the practice squad to make room. Either that or someone could be promoted to the open roster spot on the 53-man roster. We'll keep you updated on this.
