Lions shockingly waive tight end that seemed ready for breakout season

Life moves at you pretty fast doesn't it? On Monday we wrote about Shane Zylstra potentially having a breakout season with the Detroit Lions in 2024. Then the Lions waived Zylstra later that day.

Zylstra seemed totally destined for the 53-man roster this year. He had a solid camp and a really good preseason. That's why it's shocking that the Lions have chosen to waive him. The reason could be that the team wants to carry fewer tight ends this season. This would set them up with likely three guys in Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright and Parker Hesse.

Zylstra has a good shot to get claimed. If he doesn't, look for the Lions to bring him right back on their practice squad this season.
