Lions sign former Bears' fourth-round selection

The Detroit Lions continue to sign linebackers like it's going out of style. Last week they signed Abraham Beauplan, before that it was Ty Summers, Malik Jefferson and Ben Niemann. The belief is that the Lions are looking to have someone on the roster in case Malcolm Rodriguez isn't ready to go Week 1.

Lions sign former Bears' fourth-round selection

On Monday the Lions added another linebacker and you might remember this one because he spent four seasons playing against the Lions.

The Lions are signing former Bears fourth-round pick Joel Iyiegbuniwie.

Iyiegbuniwie played for Western Kentucky and was taken with the 115th pick by the Bears in the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Bears and played in 58 regular season games there. Mostly as a special teams guy. After his time in Chicago, he spent the 2022 season with the Seahawks and Panthers.

He was not with a team in 2023 and then return to football this spring as a member of the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL. It should be interesting to see what Iyiegbuniwie can do during the Lions final preseason game. He could potentially do enough to earn a practice squad spot.
