The Detroit Lions spent almost the entire 2024 regular season as the top dogs in the NFC.
Behind a high-powered offense, they were able to put together a 15-2 record and earn the top seed in the conference for the playoffs.
It didn't take long for them to lose their status as the NFC's best once the playoffs came around with their loss at home to the Commanders in their opening matchup.
Now that throne has been firmly claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles following their dominant wins in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is in a big rush for the Lions to get a chance to take back the top spot in the conference.
During the February 12 episode of the "St. Brown Podcast", St. Brown made it clear that he wants the Lions to take on the Eagles in the NFL's 2025 season opener to see what would have happened if the Lions had been healthy in the playoffs.
St. Brown said, "You would see with our healthy defense how that (expletive) operates."
Looking at what the list of Eagles opponents for 2025 has to offer, the Lions make a ton of sense for the season-opening matchup.
The Eagles are set to face three other playoff teams at home next season, but none would generate the same kind of interest as the first matchup between these two squads since Week 1 of the 2022 season.
One of the Lions' biggest stars is on board. The Eagles will certainly be on board once they hear this quote. Fans would love the possibility of an NFC Championship Game preview in the season opener.
It seems pretty clear how the NFL should decide to start the 2025 season.
