The Detroit Lions are heading into what’s going to be a very important 2025. While the team has thrived the past few seasons, this time around, Dan Campbell is forging ahead with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and that will really be a test for the Motor City’s darlings.

Right now, the Lions have one of the best edge rushers in the league in Aidan Hutchinson, but he needs a solid compliment. General manager Glenn has indicated that he isn’t as concerned about this position as the Lions fanbase is, but if he’s being real with himself, they do really need to fill this need.
There’s one edge rusher who has yet to sign his extension going into the 2025 season, and even though it seems likely that he will, actions speak louder than words, and it just hasn’t happened. What if the Lions were to get him?
The Trade Pitch: Micah Parsons to the Detroit Lions
Dallas Cowboys star edge Micah Parsons‘ extension with the team is still in limbo. He was at the team’s first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 10, and he said he will be at training camp in Oxnard, California, but he also doesn’t know if he will do the practices if he doesn’t have an extension in place.
“We’ll see,” Parsons said, via ESPN. “It’s time to tell.” He added regarding the deal, “Still hanging tight. Like I said, it’s up to [owner Jerry Jones]. He gives the green light on everything, so hopefully something’s done by next month.”
Chances are, the Cowboys will do what they usually do and wait until the last minute to sign this guy. It would be difficult to see the team let go of someone as important as Parsons. But, it could happen.
Parsons’ father has even said that he would like to see him with the Lions. Speaking on the “Life in the Stands” podcast back in December, Terrence Parsons was asked that if his son didn’t sign with the Lions, which NFL team he would like to see him traded to.
Parsons replied that his top three teams were Detroit, Kansas City and Pittsburgh, stating, “And, I know Pittsburgh fans is like, ‘whoa.’ But, I’m sorry, him and (T.J.) Watt together would be like cheating. Him and (Aidan) Hutchinson together in Detroit, would be like cheating. I love it. And then Kansas City, that is just who they are right now.”
The fact he said that Parsons and Hutchinson together would “be like cheating” is hilarious and true.
If the Cowboys were to shop Parsons, he would have plenty of suiters, so the Lions would have competition. But, it would be a match made in football heaven.
This trade proposal would send Parsons to the Lions in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and 2026 fourth-round draft pick.
Losing those draft picks would hurt for the Lions, but in exchange, they would be getting one of the best defensive ends in the league and the the No. 2 pass rusher in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus.
Parsons has made no secret that he wants to stay with the Cowboys, but he couldn’t hate on getting sent to Detroit, where he would be alongside elite talent. While he’s still most likely to sign the dotted line with Dallas, it’s at least interesting to think about this possibility.
