Lions waive receiver the the team and fans once had high hopes for

You hate to see stuff like this happen. The Detroit Lions have waived former seventh-round pick Antoine Green. This move was necessary to bring the roster back down to the required 90 players.

Green was taken by the Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft and showed some real promise at training camp that summer, but he just wasn't ready at the time, and with Josh Reynolds still with the team, it sort of held him out. He did spend the entire season stashed away on the 54-man roster.

When Reynolds left, there was some hope among fans that the Lions might already have their guy there in Green. He got off to a decent start at camp, and then he really started to make some headway and make a case for himself, but then he suffered a really bad concussion against the Giants in the first preseason game.

It was a tough loss to take at the time, and you could just feel that the coaching staff and general manager Brad Holmes hated that they had to release Green with an injury settlement last August.

"I think the unfortunate part happened was right when Antoine Green's injury came, I felt that's right when he started showing the growth. Holmes said, "And that he was about to really kind of take the lead, unfortunately, that happened."

Green went unclaimed on waivers and reverted back to the Lions. He's been with Detroit ever since, but he never came off the injured reserve list.

Now, after the Lions drafted Isaac TeSlaaa and Dominic Lovett and signed Ronnie Bell and Jackson Meeks, Green has been waived again. This time without an injury settlement, so he won't revert back to the team if he's unclaimed again.
