The Dallas Cowboys made some major changes around a now-healthy Dak Prescott this offseason, including a coaching change while bringing in wide receiver George Pickens. Now, there’s some hope that he’s going to be able to get back to an MVP level in 2025.
Despite that, ESPN’s Louis Riddick dismissed the idea that Prescott could be an MVP candidate on Get Up. He explained that his skepticism for next season is going to come down to the number of changes coming to Dallas.
“It does [seem ridiculous] in totality,” Louis Riddick said. “Because there’s a lot of different moving parts that are going on here in Dallas with the new head coach in Brian Schottenheimer. We know that he has familiarity with this football team, but now he’s the head coach. Dak has to get all these weapons on the same page, mainly talking about George Pickens.”
In 2024, Dak Prescott struggled, throwing 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions while only completing 64.7 percent of his passes. He did that in a season that was abbreviated due to injuries. It was a major disappointment after his 2023 campaign. That season, Prescott finished second in MVP voting and made his third Pro Bowl. So, he’s not far removed from competing at that level.
The Cowboys went out and traded for George Pickens this offseason pairing him with CeeDee Lamb. That gives Dallas one of the best pairs of receivers in the NFC. Still, Riddick doesn’t know that it’s going to make the Cowboys a winning team.
“I know George for his career averages more than 16 yards per reception and CeeDee is fantastic. There’s just a lot that has to go right for them to have a winning season,” Riddick said. “Which is kind of a requisite to winning the MVP.”
Dak Prescott opens up on new Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens
The George Pickens trade was one of the biggest moves of the offseason. Certainly, it’s a move that Dak Prescott is happy that Dallas made.
“We’ve connected,” Prescott said. “I’m excited. You turn on the tape, you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 catcher. He thinks it’s his ball when it’s in the air. I’m excited for him. I know we needed some help at that position. … It’s hard to double team two guys. … I think we’re putting together a nice group of weapons.”
Now, Prescott and the Cowboys will look to put together an excellent season on the field. Continuing to build that connection with George Pickens is going to be a massive part of that.
