One of the biggest moves expected to be made is the San Francisco 49ers potentially trading wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The Denver Broncos are in consideration for the dynamic veteran based on fit, need and availability due to a rookie quarterback contract.
Not everyone is a fan of the potential trade of Samuel to the Broncos, including former Broncos star cornerback and four-time Pro Bowler Chris Harris. He is in favor of elevating players like Marvin Mims Jr., a two-time Pro Bowl player and an All-Pro selection this season.
Mims' father, Marvin Mims Sr., is also in favor of his son getting more responsibility with the Broncos' offense. Mims Sr. showed his appreciation for his son and potential by thanking Harris on X.
Mims has been selected to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist in his first two years. He has returned 45 punts for 720 yards and 22 kickoffs for 591 yards and a touchdown. This season, he has returned 26 punts for 408 yards and seven kickoffs for 194 yards.
Despite starting only two games—five fewer than in 2023—he made a significant jump at wide receiver. Mims caught 39 passes for 503 yards and six touchdowns. His biggest performance came in Week 17, a 30-24 road loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, when he recorded eight receptions for 103 yards.
Second on the team in receiving yards and touchdowns and fourth in receptions, Mims is making a compelling case for the Broncos to focus on other positions rather than trading for Samuel. Given his success at Oklahoma, he deserves a chance to be the No. 2 receiver.
Support from a former Broncos star is an added bonus. With the unwavering belief of his father, Mims has the confidence needed to continue developing. Time will tell if the Broncos express interest in Samuel.
