Matt LaFleur addresses Richard Sherman's fiery take about Jordan Love after Packers playoff elimination

You won't always hear head coaches and NFL people addressing podcast takes. But now that the season is over for the Green Bay Packers, Matt LaFleur went on his own podcast and was asked by host Matt Schneidman about something former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman said of Jordan Love.

Matt LaFleur addresses Richard Sherman's fiery take about Jordan Love after Packers playoff elimination

Sherman's take

Richard Sherman has been a frequent negative voice about Love. And after the Packers 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the former defensive back said that Green Bay had signed running back Josh Jacobs to treat Love like a rookie, limiting his volume to limit mistakes.

"I don't think Jordan Love has shown me anything that really made me feel like, 'Oh my God, he's one of the guys. He's a guy that can win it all,' Sherman said. "I said it early in the season. I said, 'Oh, that's why they got Josh Jacobs. They don't trust the quarterback.' They're going to treat him like a rookie, a $55 million rookie."

LaFleur's answer

Matt LaFleur's first point about it is that they have to block outside noise, because everyone will have their opinions and strong perceptions.

"That's an interesting take. I was unaware of that," LaFleur said. "Everybody is gonna have an opinion, you just gotta ignore the noise. That's what I've done, I can't imagine what they are saying about me right now. It just is what it is, people wanna win and they're passionate."

When addressing the specific perception about Jordan Love, LaFleur stressed that he trusts his quarterback, even in the most important and difficult moments.

"I know how I feel about Jordan Love, and I feel like we can absolutely let him rip it 50 times if need be to go win us a playoff game," the coach added. "You can win a Super Bowl with him."

The Packers in fact were more conservative in 2024, with the lowest pass rate for the franchise since 2003. However, the lack of success in under the center runs forced them to be more in shotgun, and the offense wasn't as efficient to marry run and pass concepts as they had in previous seasons.

Jordan Love is under contract with the Packers through 2028. Next season, the quarterback will make $13 million, with a $29.757 million cap hit.
