Matt LaFleur Defends Luke Getsy Whose Teams Were Terrible in Last 2 Seasons – ‘He’s Going to Bring a Lot of Value to Us’

Luke Getsy is not a popular hire among Green Bay Packers as his previous teams in the last two seasons were not that impressive.

This is the third time that Getsy will be among those manning the Packers locker room after having stints as offensive quality control (2014 to 2016) and quarterbacks coach (2019). This will be the second time he will work as assitant to Matt LaFleur.

His last two teams were the Chicago Bears and the Las Vegas Raiders and he failed to see the postseasons in both organizations from 2022 to 2024. The latter fired him after abysmal record.

LaFleur is not looking at his records in the past two years though. He is holding on to the time they spent together as the reason behind his re-hiring as the team’s senior offensive assistant.

“I know he’s had a rough go of it the last couple years, but he’s a guy that I have a lot of respect for,” LaFleur said in Florida where he participated in the NFC coaches breakast.

Gets will bring more value to Green Bay Packers

Getsy has been working with the Packers before the end of the 2024 season.

He was there in helping LaFleur prepare for eventual champions Philadelphia Eagles. They lost in the wildcard round but the head coach feels Getsy will still be helpful for them.

That is because of his football I.Q.

“He’s extremely organized, really smart, I think he sees the game the right way. He’s brought a lot of cool ideas as we went through all our (film) cut-ups and discussed them as a staff. So, he’s going to bring a lot of value to us.”
