The Green Bay Packers’ playoff run came to an end with a 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC wild-card round on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
Despite a strong defensive showing, Green Bay couldn’t overcome costly mistakes, including three interceptions from quarterback Jordan Love—who hadn’t thrown a pick in his last seven regular season games.
After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t shy away from sharing his confidence in the young signal-caller, even after a rough outing.
“I love Jordan Love and how he competes,” LaFleur told reporters. “He’s going to get better and better and better. He is very critical of himself, and he does such a great job of learning from every experience. Through this, I think we’ll all be better for it.”
Love finished the game 20-of-33 for 212 yards and three interceptions. Two of the picks came in the first half, derailing the Packers’ momentum, while the third sealed the Eagles’ victory late in the game.
For his part, Love acknowledged the shortcomings of the offense down the stretch.
“I’m not sure,” Love said when asked about the passing game’s struggles. “It’s something that we’ll look at in the offseason. It comes down to executing and making plays out there. It just wasn’t good enough.”
The loss marked a frustrating end to a season that fell short of expectations. But with LaFleur voicing his belief in Love, who the franchise signed to a four-year, $220 million contract extension this past offseason, the Packers will look to regroup and build around the 26-year old quarterback heading into next year.
“I hurt for our guys,” LaFleur added. “There’s a lot of energy and work that goes into this thing. And it should hurt. Hopefully, we can use this as fuel to have a great offseason and come back next season ready to rock.”
