It was not a normal week for the Green Bay Packers offense. It could have been a strong opportunity for Romeo Doubs as a primary option with Christian Watson sidelined, but his unhappiness with his role within the offense ended up turning into a distraction for the team and into a suspension for Doubs, who didn't play against the Los Angeles Rams.
For head coach Matt LaFleur, the situation didn't get in the way of the other players, though, and the roster overcame the challenges to beat the Los Angeles Rams.
"Distractions happen in the National Football League, distractions happen in life," Matt LaFleur said after the game in California. "You gotta do your best to just focus on the task at hand. And I think our guys did a pretty good job with that."
Romeo Doubs missed practice on Thursday and Friday because he wasn't satisfied with his usage. On Saturday, the Packers suspended him for a game, but the team expects Doubs to be back to work ahead of the Arizona Cardinals matchup in week 6.
"I'm looking forward to our conversation tomorrow (Monday)," LaFleur said. "So I fully anticipate him coming back, I'm hopeful that he will come back and get ready to work."
Without Watson and Doubs, the Packers had limited production from the depth receivers. Outside of Jayden Reed, who got four catches for 78 yards, Green Bay had two catches for 20 yards (and some drops) from Dontayvion Wicks, two catches for 14 yards from Malik Heath, and a catch for 12 yards from Bo Melton.
The leading receiver on the day was tight end Tucker Kraft, who had four catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
