Matt LaFleur shuts down Jordan Love and Brett Favre comparisons

The head coach of the Packers doesn’t want to hear about his quarterback being compared to team legends at this point in time

Matt LaFleur knows and accepts that when you have a quarterback who’s open to making risky throws, that can result in both good and bad outcomes. It's not surprising to read all of the comparisons in Jordan Love to Packers Hall of Famer Brett Favre. Both quarterbacks are more than capable of making exhilarating plays but that does come with the downside of increased lturnovers. Finding the perfect balance of Brett Favre improvisation and Aaron Rodgers accuracy could make Jordan Love one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. But, Matt LaFleur made it abundantly clear that he doesn’t want to hear about any of these comparisons.

Matt LaFleur talked to the media about his quarterback after the most recent win.

On QB Jordan Love handling the last drive

Matt: I just talked to him about that. That’s his superpower. No matter what’s happened, whether good or bad, he continues to fight and be resilient and the moment is never too big for him. I thought that was huge for him to be able to take us all the way down the field and get an opportunity right there to kick the field goal. Hats off to him.

On living with the risk of Love’s aggression

Matt: I think it’s always a fine line. Obviously, the quarterback's number one job is to take care of the football, but I also don’t think, especially today, he was always put in the best positions to throw the football. Again, we’ll take a look at it and evaluate it and be critical of ourselves, myself more than anybody.

On what it does for Love to have a game-winning drive

Matt: I thought he showed great poise, and the ability to lead us down in the most critical moment. Certainly, two-minute, I don’t want to say it was an issue for us, but we’ve had some bad things happen in some of those situations and for us to come away today with a win, game-winning drive in a two-minute situation, I think that will give us a lot of confidence moving forward.

On the team’s resiliency

Matt: I just love the effort of our guys. The resiliency of our guys, the ability just to respond to some adversity I think is huge. I think that’s, obviously that’s a playoff caliber football team (Houston), I think one of the best teams in the league and it just, we’ll never apologize for winning.”

(on coaching Love to throw fewer interceptions) “Like I said, hopefully we can put him (Love) in better situations so he’s not throwing picks. So all you ‘talking heads’ out there can ease on the Brett Favre comparisons.
