Shortly after the New York Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on June 3, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was linked to the job opening.
Kidd just completed his fourth season in Dallas, and although New York was interested in interviewing him, the Mavericks denied their request.
After Dallas selected Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft on Wednesday, team general manager Nico Harrison confirmed he has no plans to move on from Kidd in the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Denver Nuggets requested to meet with Mavericks assistant coach Jared Dudley. Dallas approved the request, and Dudley will meet with Denver next week as it looks to add him to coach David Adelman’s staff.
NBA insider Marc Stein broke the news on social media.
"More Saturday Night News: Denver has secured permission to interview Dallas' Jared Dudley for David Adelman's staff, league sources say," said Stein. "Dudley already had interest from Memphis and Cleveland after Phoenix interviewed him as part of its HC search."
Next season will be Adelman's first full season as a head coach. He took over as interim this past season after the Nuggets fired Mike Malone just days before the regular season ended. He then went on to lead the Nuggets to a seven-game second-round loss to the eventual NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
As for Dudley, he played 14 seasons in the NBA, winning the 2020 NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers. After retirement in 2021, he joined the Mavericks' coaching staff and has been with them since then.
