Dallas Mavericks fans have been looking for a source of positivity over the past week since seeing their franchise player, Luka Doncic, traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis in return.
For a brief period of time on Saturday night, they got that positivity, with Davis looking dominant in his debut with the team, scoring 26 points and putting up 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks. However, that positivity quickly went down the drain with Davis going down with an injury and leaving the game.
Things got worse on Sunday when it was announced that the injury to Davis, which was originally thought to be minor, ended up being much more serious that initially reported.
According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, "It is feared that the Mavericks' newly acquired Anthony Davis will be sidelined for an indefinite period … with the severity of his adductor injury sustained Saturday still being determined."
Davis was dealing with an adductor injury while with the Lakers, and had missed the last few games before being traded. Some fans were worried that the Mavericks were rushing him back in order to get him on the court in Dallas, and it ended up hurting them in the end.
Meanwhile, Doncic is expected to make his Lakers debut on Monday night against the Utah Jazz, which will likely be among the most watched NBA games of the season, and of the decade.
We will see what the update is on Davis over the next couple of weeks and hope that he can get back onto the court in the near future for the Mavericks, but this is a tough blow for Dallas fans who are already frustrated by the way the past week has gone for their team.
