Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht was joking when he said if the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl, quarterback Baker Mayfield is likely to sink the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the Tampa Bay during the team's victory parade on the water.
After the Bucs won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady, Brady threw the trophy from one boat to another and the trophy almost hit the water. Licht said if Mayfield were to attempt the trick a la Brady, it just might hit the water.
“That would be something to see, him in a boat parade... that trophy probably would be in the water for sure," Licht joked.
The Buccaneers are all smiles these days as they reached an accord with wide receiver Chris Godwin who spoke about his new three-year, $66 million deal. Godwin met with the local media on Wednesday after signing his pact.
Godwin has his heart set on winning the Super Bowl in 2025.
"I'm extremely hungry for it. To me, it does not make sense to do this if you’re not in it to win a championship," Godwin said in his press conference. "We put way too much in it, we spend way too much time away from our families, we put our bodies through way too much to be in this to not try to win a championship. Everything that we do is in pursuit of that."
Godwin agreed with Licht when it comes to Mayfield sinking the top prize in sports.
"It would be in the water," Godwin agreed. "But he might dive after it, too."
