Mel Kiper Jr. has been doing this NFL Draft thing for a long time. He is plugged into the NFL Draft, so it's interesting to hear his latest take on what's going to happen with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is, of course, the son of Deion Sanders.
Kiper released a new mock on Tuesday, and he believes Shedeur Sanders will end up "falling" to the New York Jets at No. 7 overall.
The only question here is whether or not the new bosses in New York — led by new head coach Aaron Glenn — would want to bring the inevitable circus to town that would come along with Coach Prime being connected to the Jets. They just said goodbye to Aaron Rodgers and his drama, so it will be interesting to see if they truly do go with Sanders if he's indeed available when they're up to pick.He explained the pick on ESPN's "NFL Live" on Tuesday.
“Shedeur in New York with the Jets, to me, is perfect,” Kiper said (h/t On3). “He’s used to the bright lights. He’s going to come in there, he’s not going to be intimidated by it. He had to deal with all the expectations at Colorado, his father, Deion. He’s been around this pressure-packed environment basically his whole life. He knows I love Shedeur. He’s my QB1."
It's interesting that Kiper believes Sanders is QB1 in this draft, but he has the Cleveland Browns taking Miami's Cam Ward at No. 2 overall.
Kiper is right regarding Sanders, though. He's used to the bright lights and heavy expectations, and all he's done as a quarterback is live up to them. He threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns (10 interceptions) last season for the Buffaloes while also rushing for four touchdowns.
