I'll be the first to confess I don't love the schedule release week and the hype the NFL is able to generate around it. But I would much rather do that than cover another edition of the Dallas Cowboys' exhausting negotiating process when it comes to extending its stars.
Oh, well. I can't do anything about that. On Thursday, the pending Micah Parsons contract extension reappeared on our radar following a post on X from the Cowboys superstar defender, who is seeking a deal that will likely make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
The post was a response to Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr. from All City DLLS, who suggested a "a hand shake deal is already done" between Parsons and the front office. In turn, Hill's post was a reaction to Stephen Jones telling reporters he thinks they'll "ultimately" sign Micah.
Okay. Now, bear with me for the following paragraph, I promise it'll be explained.
Parsons cryptically tweeted multiple emojis of a cap—often used to indicate a lie—followed by the phrase "no kizzy," which is slang for "no lie." Naturally, the cap emojis made the post confusing, as it could've been interpreted as Micah saying Hill's message was "no cap" overall or a double negative: "Cap, no lies," meaning he was saying Hill was lying, for real.
Fortunately, Parsons didn't take long to clear the air with another post, which read: "Last time I seen a hand shaken deal!" and used a GIF of actor Michael B. Jordan in the popular movie Sinners, which is known to use elements of betrayal in its plot.
To sum up all the unnecessary confusion caused by the social media posts, it appears clear Parsons was trying to say there's not a hand shake deal in place. That would also be consistent with his messaging from earlier in the offseason of not having any "backdoor negotiations" without his agent Dave Mulugheta.
Based on how the Cowboys handled negotiations with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, we're in for a long process here. In the meantime, Parsons has been clear in his intentions of showing up to minicamp and training camp later in the offseason.
