Micah Parsons will be another Dallas Cowboys star who is expected to get paid a large sum this offseason. However, don’t expect him to be a priority at this moment, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Parsons has a legit claim to be the best player on the defensive side of the ball, depending upon who you ask. But with two years to go on his contract, he might not see some sort of record-type of a deal soon.
Could things change? Yes, but Parsons is a lower priority than two of his teammates: Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
“Micah Parsons, who might just be the best defensive player in the entire league and they’re gonna have to pay eventually as well,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “His situation is a little bit different because he’s two years from free agency and Lamb and Prescott are only one year so they are probably considered more of a priority right now. Parsons might have to wait, it seems like, at least right now. He’s okay with that. He did show up to mini-camp. He’s expected to be at training camp.
“But this is a player that they have behind the scenes been preparing to pay down the road. It’s a matter of when not if essentially, but right now it does not seem to be imminent by any stretch.”
Parsons didn’t miss all of minicamp and eventually showed up. He’s still all in on the Cowboys.
During mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, the former first-rounder explained why practicing and training privately was the best thing for him, even if it meant missing opportunities with the Cowboys.
“Yeah, you know, I think the more years you have, the more you understand that there’s also like the business side to it,” Parsons said, per NFL Network’s Jane Slater. “You know, and I think that’s what camp is for. I mean, there was a time where Aaron Donald didn’t even go to camp and he won Defensive Player of the Year and then went to the playoffs…
“Like we wasn’t talking about the best defensive player wasn’t even in camp… So, I’m just looking at it as a time for my body to heal. I’m playing as an undersized rusher… banged up every year. So I’m just letting my body heal. I’m just trying to grow, strengthen, and really just get ready for the year.”
