FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons this week hosted Boise State’s standout running back Ashton Jeanty on his podcast, The Edge, offering fans an in-depth look at the rising star's journey and aspirations. ... and much, much more.
While the Cowboys gear up for a crucial matchup against the Panthers, Parsons sparked intrigue by suggesting - strongly - that Jeanty might fit well in Dallas.
Parsons, who has been vocal about supporting Jeanty’s Heisman candidacy, gave the rising star a chance to make his case for the award before then shifting the focus to Jeanty’s NFL potential, making a pitch for the Cowboys to consider him.
“As someone in the league, I would love to have you as a teammate knowing that’s what you are about,” Parsons said after hearing about Jeanty’s commitment to mastering the game. “I always say one year can change your life. The fact that you were able to lock in for that one year and do what you had to do … Not only are you a Heisman finalist but you’re soon to be a first-round draft pick. It’s really exciting to hear that. You seem like you got a really good head on your shoulders.”
And Micah continued ...
“Based off what I hear, you might get a call from Dallas, we don’t know yet. I see you calling us out," said Parsons with a laugh. "I don’t blame you; I had to do the same thing. You got to let them know sometimes.”
Parsons did indeed announce to the world at the end of his time at Penn State that he'd like to land in Dallas ... though that frankly had virtually nothing to do with the Cowboys selecting him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Nevertheless, Parsons then invited Jeanty to make a direct pitch to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
“Obviously, you’ve watched the film … That speaks for itself. You go and ask around, everybody around this building (in Boise), everybody who’s ever met me, been around me. They’ll tell you how great of a person I am. Great character, not only how I work but how I bring people on. I make people better. I push people to reach excellence. I want to see everybody win and that’s no matter where I’m at …
"As soon as I join your team, whatever team it is, your team will be better off just because I’m in that locker room,” Jeanty said confidently.
Jeanty, by the way, played high school football right here in Frisco, and has tallked openly about being a "homecoming hero.'' So is there a match? Too early to tell, as 5-8 Dallas presently sits in the No. 12 spot in the April NFL Draft ... and we don't yet know, of course, where Jeanty will land.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, are turning their focus toward finishing the season strong with Rico Dowdle as their top back ... as he however enters free agency after this season.
