Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs make shocking claim about 3-7 Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys fell to 3-7 on the season via a 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night that unofficially ended Dallas' chances of completing a second-half run and earning a playoff spot. 

Nevertheless, star pass-rusher Micah Parsons insisted on the latest edition of his "The Edge" podcast that the Cowboys are better than their record indicates. 

"I’m going to put this out there," Parsons said, as shared by Griffin McVeigh of On3. "We’re a d— good football team. I know the scores ain’t showing it and obviously, people feel like we have so many missing pieces… I just hate that the score don’t really show how good we actually are." 

Parsons was referencing how the Cowboys have been decimated by injuries throughout the fall. Specifically, Patrik Walker of the club's website mentioned that Dallas had 18 players named on its injury report "who were either recovering from an ailment and/or were trying to manage one to remain available" ahead of the Houston game. 

With that said, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones received plenty of criticism for failing to improve the team's roster last offseason well before Dallas dropped five straight games and before starting quarterback Dak Prescott went down with a campaign-ending hamstring injury.

Some suggested the "Monday Night Football" loss to Houston offered proof that head coach Mike McCarthy has lost the Dallas locker room. Cornerback Trevon Diggs may or may not have touched upon that subject while agreeing with Parsons' assessment of a team that seemingly isn't close to turning things around anytime soon. 

"I think the work that we put in in the facility, it’s hard to overcome, and it’s hard to win the game with just defense and it’s hard to win the game with just offense. It’s got to be all three cylinders," Diggs explained. "...Everybody got to be clicking. But I feel like we have a really good football team. I agree with you. We really do."

Parsons, Diggs and others on the Dallas roster may hope that former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick also thinks the Cowboys are "a really good football team" and simply need a new leader. McCarthy remains in the final season of his contract, and Jones is widely expected to at least reach out to Belichick in January. 

The struggling Cowboys next play at the 7-4 Washington Commanders this coming Sunday. As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Dallas as a massive 10.5-point underdog for that matchup.
