Mickey Loomis took an unnecessary shot at Marquez Valdes-Scantling after big game

Week 10 was a strange time for the New Orleans Saints. After losing seven games in a row, the team not only won against the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons but of all the players on the team, it was Marquez Valdes-Scantling who had a sensational day at the office.

Valdes-Scantling caught three passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the three-point win. Considering he hadn't been with the team very long, it was a performance that came out of nowhere but Saints GM Mickey Loomis took a bit of an unnecessary shot at the Saints wideout when talking about his performance.

When Loomis was asked about MVS' massive game against the Falcons, the general manager responded, "I'm guessing that most of our fans didn't know who Marquez was before the game. They certainly do now." Okay, yes, he finished that up with a compliment but the sentence before that seemed not worth saying out loud and also untrue.

Unless people are only watching Saints football, it's doubtful that the first part of Loomis' comments were true. Valdes-Scantling spent the first four years of his career with the Green Bay Packers catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. Anyone who played with Rodgers during that time was at least a somewhat known commodity and it's not as though MVS was a slouch. He had 13 touchdowns as a Packer.

After his time in Green Bay came to an end, Valdes-Scantling signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, meaning he got to play with another household quarterback name in Patrick Mahomes. Valdes-Scantling might have only had three touchdowns for the Chiefs during the regular season in his two years in Kansas City but the Chiefs made it to and won the Super Bowl both years he was there. MVS also had some big catches in those playoff runs, including a huge touchdown grab against the Bengals in the 2023 AFC Championship Game.

Again, if Saints fans are only watching their team and no other games then maybe Loomis' comments were true but that's not how things work for the majority of football fans. Valdes-Scantling had previous accomplishments before coming to New Orleans so to suggest that no one knew who he was is blasphemy. He's a two-time Super Bowl champion who played with two of the best quarterbacks in the league. That's not a nobody.
