The Kansas City Chiefs have officially brought back a Super Bowl LVIII champion, and he's pretty excited to be back with the team.
Mike Edwards officially inked his deal with the Chiefs on Tuesday, April 8. Edwards is back on a one-year deal after playing in Kansas City during the 2023 NFL season. He appeared in 21 combined regular-season and postseason games and started nine after Bryan Cook was injured.
A former third-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of the University of Kentucky in 2019, Edwards recorded 63 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, 7 passes defended, and two fumble recoveries, including one that was returned 101 yards for a touchdown.
Edwards spent the 2024 NFL season splitting time between three teams, failing to stick with the Buffalo Bills and the Tennessee Titans before returning to the Bucs to finish the season.
The 28-year-old delivered a message to Chiefs fans that the team shared on their social media channels shortly after he signed his new deal to return to Kansas City.
"What up, Chiefs Kingdom? It's Mike Edwards reporting live here," he said. "Can't wait to be back. Excited to be back, man. Ready to get to work. Let's go!"
Edwards also took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the fanbase, sharing his excitement about returning to Kansas City with the following message:
Edwards has proven himself as valuable depth in Kansas City before, and the team is clearly hoping that he'll be able to contribute to another Super Bowl title. Not only is he reunited with some of his former 2023 teammates on the Chiefs, but he also gets a reunion with his college defensive coordinator, Matt House, who rejoined Steve Spagnuolo's coaching staff as a senior defensive assistant.
