During Tuesday's training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Mike Edwards discussed his adjustment to becoming a leader in the secondary this season.
"Yeah. I mean, J.R. (Justin Reid) was that guy, communication, everything, vocal leadership, led by example. Definitely miss him, but I'm trying to take on that role now, whatever that may be, trying to take on a leadership role," said Edwards, "So, I feel like everybody can be a leader in our room, but being an older guy, being a vet, try to take on that role. So help out the younger guys as much as possible."
Edwards returns with knowledge of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's system and Super Bowl experience to help mentor the younger players.
"Man, they (teammates) call me everything, old head, Unc OG, everything," said Edwards, erupting the pool of reporters with laughter, "I'm like, Damn, I'm not even 30 yet."
During the 2023 season in Kansas City, Edwards recorded 51 total tackles, five passes defended, and an interception. Edwards played with the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.
