Milan Lucic's agent has refuted a recent report regarding his client signing a professional tryout contract with the New Jersey Devils.
On Wednesday night, a report came out from Edmonton Oilers reporter Bob Stauffer saying that the New Jersey Devils will be signing Milan Lucic to a professional tryout contract.
In the hours that followed Stauffer's report, Milan Lucic's agent Gerry Johannson said that his client has not signed a PTO with the New Jersey Devils and would need to be cleared by the National Hockey League in order to play next season.
'Milan Lucic has not signed a PTO with the Devils according to his agent Gerry Johannson.He needs to be cleared by the NHL before he signs anything.' Rick Dhaliwal said.
The New Jersey Devils also commented on the report, telling James Nichols of NJD Hockey Now that they haven't signed Milan Lucic to a PTO and that his situation is in the hands of the league at this time.
'Categorically untrue. His situation lies with the league. We haven't and couldn't sign him to a PTO. Apparently, Stauffer corrected t on his hit later n the day.' The Devils told Nichols.
Lucic, 36, returned to the Boston Bruins last summer, signing a one-year deal with the team for their Centennial season. However, his return to Boston would be cut short just four games into his stint after he was arrested for an alleged domestic incident. Charges were dropped back in February, but Lucic did not return to the Bruins and was given an indefinite leave of absence.
In four games with the Bruins last season, the Vancouver native registered two assists, two penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
