The undrafted free agency process has been a big focus for Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah over the past two seasons. He mostly punted it in 2022, but they still had one player make the roster.
Over the course of the first three NFL Drafts for the Vikings, eight undrafted free agents have made the roster.
- 2022: EDGE Luiji Vilain
- 2023: LB Ivan Pace Jr.
- 2023: EDGE Andre Carter II
- 2023: CB NaJee Thompson
- 2024: EDGE Gabe Murphy
- 2024: NT Taki Taimani
- 2024: CB Dwight McGlothern
- 2024: EDGE/LB Bo Richter
Vikings have another good UDFA class
What's really interesting about the Vikings' UDFAs over the last three years is that four of them have played edge rusher. The Vikings think they can find advantages with pass rushers who have athletic upside that were overlooked for whatever reason.
- Vilain: Production
- Pace: Too small
- Carter: Lack of play strength
- Murphy: Short arms
- Richter: Short arms
The Vikings have done a great job in getting players available in the top 300 of the consensus board the last two seasons. Ivan Pace Jr. (153rd), Andre Carter II (101st), Dwight McGlothern (189th), and Gabe Murphy (111th) were among the top overall players on the consensus board and were subsequently ranked in the top 200 of Hasan's consensus board. Brown was the fifth-ranked player on the consensus board remaining after the NFL Draft, and it's at a position that they are trying to fortify for the long run.
It's noteworthy that all four players that the Vikings have brought in that have been ranked in the top 200 have made the team and stayed on the roster all year. Pace is currently penciled in to be a starter for the Vikings and Murphy, McGlothern, and Richter could all have significant roles this year.
This year, the Vikings do have one edge rusher who fell to them in undrafted free agency that ranked in the top 300 of Arif Hasan's Consensus Board with 112 big boards on it. Instead of having an athletic deficiency per se, Tyler Batty's is a lack of pass rush ability.
The Vikings have added five players who made the top 300 of the big board.
- Kansas OL Logan Brown: 143
- BYU EDGE Tyler Batty: 239
- Minnesota QB Max Brosmer: 256
- Georgia TE Benjamin Yurosek: 266
- Wisconsin OL Joe Huber: 295
Now, there are more intriguing players that the Vikings have brought in as UDFAs and it's important to keep an eye on all of these players, because there is a chance that we see one or more make the roster.
- Indiana WR Myles Price
- Texas WR Silas Bolden
- Georgia OLB Chaz Chambliss
- NC State OL Zeke Correll
- Tulane WR Dontae Fleming
- Kansas State CB Keenan Garber
- Auburn P Oscar Chapman (International Pathway Player)
- Auburn LB Austin Keys
- Auburn WR Robert Lewis
- Auburn LB Dorian Mausi
- North Carolina TE Bryson Nesbit
- Miami S Mishael Powell
- Jacksonville State RB Tre Stewart
- Utah CB Zemiah Vaughn
- Middle Tennessee DL Alex Williams
Never count out the Vikings when it comes to the UDFA class.
