The NFL community lost a Super Bowl champion and two-time Pro Bowl defensive end this Tuesday.
Former Minnesota Vikings star Jim Marshall has passed away at the age of 87. He gave everything he had during his 20 seasons in the NFL, proving to be a true ironman.
Marshall, a member of the Purple People Eaters, played in 270 straight games for the Vikings. He finished his career with 130.5 sacks and 30 fumble recoveries.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Vikings released a statement on Marshall's death.
"On behalf of his cherished wife, Susan, it is with heavy hearts and an abundant gratitude for the joy he brought to the franchise and region, that the Minnesota Vikings announce Marshall passed away Tuesday at the age of 87, following a lengthy hospitalization," the team said in a statement. "Beyond athletic prowess, Marshall's legacy is one of an enduring and endearing spirit and deep generosity. His exuberance positively affected countless others, and his memory will continue to inspire."

Marshall made quite the impact on everyone around him during his time in Minnesota.
"Jim led by example, and there was no finer example for others to follow," Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf said. "His impact on the Vikings was felt long after he left the field. Jim will always be remembered as a tremendous player and person."
A celebration of Marshall's life will be planned. Once the details are available, they'll be shared by the Vikings.
