Aaron Rodgers is still one of the most talked-about storylines in the NFL late in the offseason. While the Pittsburgh Steelers are the clear front-runners to sign him, the New Orleans Saints have become a talked about landing spot as well.
Following the news of Derek Carr's retirement, the Saints have three young quarterbacks left on the roster. Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough, and Jake Haener are the three names in the New Orleans quarterback room right now.
That led to some questions about whether or not the Saints would have interest in signing Rodgers for the 2025 season.
Now, there has been more clarity given about New Orleans and its possible interest level in Rodgers.
Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com has provided new details. His report will end the idea of Rodgers becoming the next quarterback of the Saints.
"No surprise here, but Aaron Rodgers never really was a consideration for the Saints in the wake of the Derek Carr retirement," Duncan shared. "At their current stages, they don't make sense for him, and he doesn't make sense for them."
Seeing New Orleans sign Rodgers would have been a surprise. The Saints simply aren't ready to compete and the 41-year-old quarterback is looking to win. Rodgers would be able to compete for a championship with the Steelers.
Following his news, Pittsburgh should be even more confident that it will land Rodgers. There are no other teams around the league who can offer an elite supporting cast and a chance to win a Super Bowl that need a quarterback.
As for New Orleans, Kellen Moore and company will enter training camp and preseason action with an open competition. Rattler and Shough are the clear front-runners to win the job, but Haener will look to make some noise.
Rodgers will continue being a topic of interest until he makes a final decision. There is still a chance he could decide to retire or simply remain a free agent until another opportunity opens up. More than likely, he will sign with the Steelers.
Expect to continue hearing a lot of noise about Rodgers moving forward. Pittsburgh will continue hoping that it can get a commitment from the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
