Myles Garrett Becomes Micah Parsons’ Advocate as Jerry Jones Delays Contract Extension

Garrett has been recording double-digit sacks for the past three years. His dominance fully deserves of his four-year, $160 million deal. Now that he has received his piece of the pie, Garrett is advocating for one of his peers to secure his bag.

The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are yet to reach a deal. The edge rusher enters the final year of his rookie deal, and this off-season was expected to be the year that he received his first big paycheck; however, that has not happened so far.

Parsons has not said much about his negotiations with Jerry Jones. Interestingly, he has reminded the team that the longer they wait, the more they will have to pay. “It’s going to cost them more,” Parsons told Clarence Hill of All City DLLS. Myles Garrett backed his peer and made a case for him to be paid as soon as possible.

I think he deserves whatever he’s earned. Once I got the chance to train with him. I’ve seen his work ethic. I’ve seen how he attacks. The weights. Running. He’s 100% committed to his craft and getting better every day. He has that level of dedication to the game. He should get every penny he’s owed.

The duo has worked out together in the past, and Garrett knows how dedicated Parsons is to the game. It is a good time to recall that Parsons was the one who was compared to Lawrence Taylor in his rookie year. There aren’t many players who attract that kind of comparison.

In his four years, Parsons has consistently recorded double-digit sacks. This season, expect him to dominate. With the departure of Demarcus Lawrence, Parsons will be unleashed. This is his opportunity to prove that he can step up as the leader of this defensive line.

Micah Parsons will stay in Dallas. As long as Jerry Jones is calling the shots, there is no possibility of him allowing a Parsons trade. The only question is how costly Parsons will be for the Dallas Cowboys? This is a team that has spent a lot to preserve its quarterback-receiver duo. Dak Prescott‘s $240 million deal and CeeDee Lamb‘s $136 million deal have impacted the team’s cap space.

By extending Parsons’ negotiations, the Cowboys are allowing his price to go up. Since Garrett receives $40 million per year, Parsons will expect to be compensated on a similar scale.

If the negotiations do not get sorted out by next year, the Cowboys may have two contract situations. With the arrival of George Pickens, who is also playing in the final year of his rookie contract, Dallas will be liable to negotiate his next deal as well. Assuming the Pickens-Cowboys experiment succeeds, he will seek to be a part of the $100 million club.

In the interim, Parsons has continued to display commendable sportsmanship. He has showcased his commitment to the game by attending the team’s minicamp. The Dallas Cowboys’ patience can prove to be costly if the Pittsburgh Steelers offer their star TJ Watt a deal better than Garrett’s, because then, the price will go up more. It has been a phenomenal year financially for the league’s top edge rushers.
