NBA eyeing surprising plan to reunite Klay Thompson and Steph Curry one last time

Earlier this week, the Dallas Mavericks lost their biggest game of the year so far as Klay Thompson's return to the Bay to battle the Golden State Warriors for the first time as a Maverick ended with a loss.

Thompson ended up having a good game as he finished with 22 points while knocking down six threes, but the Mavs couldn't hold on in the clutch and ultimately ended up losing the game. Thompson's return to Golden State was filled with juicy storylines, as Thompson allegedly "ghosted" Stephen Curry ahead of this game, but Curry got the last laugh as he finished with 37 points and drilled a dagger 3-pointer to seal the win for the Warriors.

Curry and Thompson are one of the most iconic duos to ever play the game, and although they may never be teammates in the NBA again, there is a different way on the table to reunite the Splash Brothers.

Rumors indicate Curry and Thompson may team up for 3-point contest

According to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN, there are "plans" to bring back the WNBA-NBA 3-point shootout at All-Star Weekend between Curry and Sabrina Ionescu, but they are also eyeing including Caitlin Clark and Thompson in this event to make it a two-on-two must-see 3-point contest.

Adding one of the most exciting WNBA players in Clark will surely draw more eyes, and having Curry and Thompson team up one final time in San Francisco would be the perfect ending to close that chapter of Thompson's career.

The Warriors fans still love Thompson, and getting to see him and Curry join forces for the 3-point contest would help get fans more excited about All-Star Weekend once again. Fans' interest in All-Star Weekend as a whole has plummeted over the last few years, and a Thompson-Curry tandem in the 3-point contest would save the weekend on its own.

Thompson and Curry won four championships together as teammates for the Warriors, and although Thompson's time in Golden State ended rough, this would be the perfect way for fans in the Bay to show their love to Thompson again, while also giving NBA fans the chance to see two of the greatest shooters this game has ever seen on the same team again.

The Splash Brothers era in Golden State was one of the most dominant teams this league has ever seen considering that they won 73 games in the 2015-16 season, and both players' legacies will now continue on their own.

Thompson has had a good start to the season in Dallas as he is averaging 14.8 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from downtown, and he has already become a fan favorite. His journey to prove to the rest of the league that he is still a great defender is also off to a great start, as he has played stellar defense on the perimeter over the first 12 games.

While the Mavs aren't performing up to the expectations that were placed on them after a trip to the NBA Finals last year, Thompson isn't worried. He talked about how it is better to go through these struggles now rather than down the final stretch of the season, and this is the type of faith and positivity that they need to get back on track.

Thompson is focused on winning his fifth ring as a Maverick this season, and although he may never play another NBA game with Curry on his team, they could be teaming up one final time at All-Star Weekend in the Bay next February.
