'Needs To Be Smarter' - Colin Cowherd Unleashes Rant About Shedeur Sanders
It's no secret that Colin Cowherd isn't the biggest fan of Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Last month, Sanders got busted for speeding twice. The second time around, he was caught going 101 mph in a 60 mph zone. While at training camp Friday, he spoke to the media about his traffic citations in Ohio.
"Yeah, I definitely learned not to drive fast at all," Sanders said, via Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. "So I really don't even drive that much anymore. But I really don't drive fast at all. So I definitely follow the rules and I hope everybody learned from my situation, you know that not drive fast at all."
After hearing these remarks from Sanders on Friday, Cowherd unleashed a rant on FS1's "The Herd." He made it clear that he wants the rookie quarterback to avoid making "dumb" decisions off the field.
"What Shedeur Sanders did, getting two speeding tickets, was dumb. He’s a fifth-round pick. They haven’t invested anything in him. They could show him the door tomorrow. He’s a quarterback, the standards are higher," Cowherd said.
"I’m gonna hold my quarterback to a little higher standard than the general public. I need smarter. I need more dedicated. I need more focus, speeding ticket becomes not knowing the formation on Sunday, like it’s just not that difficult. Quarterbacks are supposed to put out fires not start them. Quarterback, NFL franchise. There’s 32 starting jobs in the country. That’s it, just call it out, not good enough."
The Browns have already spoke to Sanders about his excessive speeding.
"It’s something that we have addressed with him. He understands the implications. He understands the consequences," Browns general manager Andrew Berry said. "I think the thing is it’s not just about yourself. . . . It’s not just about driving your car real fast. It’s about the fact that you endanger other people. It’s about the fact that if a deer or someone cuts out in front of you like your reaction time. It’s just dangerous, and it’s not something that we want our guys to be doing. It’s not something that they should be doing. The No. 1 reason is because we don’t want some catastrophic accident."
Sanders will get to showcase his skillset this preseason. If he wants to make Cleveland's 53-man roster, it's imperative that he plays well.
