Negan Just Performed One Of The Most Disturbing Walking Dead Kills I've Seen In 15 Years

The Walking Dead has been filled with brutal moments throughout its 15-year history, but Negan's latest kill is among the darkest the franchise has ever seen. Although Negan eventually became a fan favorite in The Walking Dead, he spent his first few seasons in the zombie universe as a true menace, with his introductory scene becoming one of the most talked-about moments in TV history. Ruthlessly murdering Abraham next to his loved ones was already hard to watch, but seeing Negan beat Glenn to death in front of his pregnant wife emphasized just how sinister he used to be.

Since then, Negan has changed a lot, going through a long-winded redemption arc that involved saving several main characters. As a result, he slowly won fans over and became a much better man, but The Walking Dead brought back Negan's evil persona in Dead City season 2, and the former villain really embraced his old ways in the finale. Out of all the terrible things he has done since the start of the outbreak, his latest kill is among his most savage, proving that Negan's cold-blooded behavior still exists, even though his actions were somewhat justified.

Negan Just Killed A Guy By Burning Him From The Inside Out

Negan Ignited Methane Inside Bruegel's Mouth, Providing A Truly Disturbing Death

Throughout Dead City's two seasons, Negan has made several enemies, and he just dealt with one by burning him from the inside. After taking over the Burazi, Negan found himself in a feud with Bruegel and his faction, and despite the two meeting to negotiate, each group planned on betraying the other, leading to a brawl inside the Burazi's church. While there were plenty of casualties on both sides, their confrontation ended with Negan ambushing Bruegel and Perlie, forcing them to their knees where he planned to kill both men, using his classic children's game to decide who was first.

The former Saviors leader forced the gas inside Bruegel's mouth before pointing a torch towards him, causing him to burn from the inside out.

Although his bat landed on Perlie, Negan decided to kill Bruegel first, using a truly horrifying method. Since the villain was fixated on gaining control of Manhattan's methane operation, Negan decided to give Bruegel what he wanted, albeit in a much more sinister way. The former Saviors leader forced the gas inside Bruegel's mouth before pointing a torch towards him, causing him to burn from the inside out. The scene was as grizzly as you could imagine, as Negan's creative cruelty provided an extremely dark conclusion to Bruegel's story, and his final moments were far from easy to watch.

Sure, Glenn's death was undoubtedly one of The Walking Dead's most squeamish moments, but the emotional weight was a big part in making it such an uncomfortable sequence. In contrast, Bruegel didn't exactly garner much sympathy, but the ghastly nature of seeing him panic while his head essentially melted was truly barbaric, making it one of the most memorable moments from Dead City season 2's ending. As a result, Negan's kill in the finale is easily among the most extreme in the franchise's history, reinforcing just how terrifying he can be.

Bruegel's Death Was A Fitting End To A Great Walking Dead Character

The Manipulative Villain Deserved A Memorable Final Scene

Considering Bruegel has been one of The Walking Dead's best villains in years, it seems fitting that he was given such an iconic death. Characters like Joe and Gareth may not have been the original show's biggest villains, but their legendary death scenes help make them more memorable, and Bruegel also falls into this category. His vibrant personality mixed with his constant lies, deception, and manipulation cemented him as a great antagonist despite only being involved in the franchise for a short time, and his final scene helped elevate him even more.

The Walking Dead: Dead City's entire second season is available to stream on AMC+.

Being killed by methane was fitting, considering Bruegel was willing to backstab and betray people to get it, but the brutality of his fate was also earned. He mistreated people constantly throughout Dead City, which is the only reason he had so much power, and had Negan's victim been someone other than himself, he probably would have clapped along with him. As much as I loved Bruegel's character, his death was a long time coming, and suffering in his final moments gives him a poetic ending that secured his legacy as one of The Walking Dead's best modern characters.
