The Kansas City Chiefs' offense with Patrick Mahomes has weapons everywhere you look, but that doesn't mean you can't add more, right?
And that's exactly what the Chiefs did in the fourth round of the NFL Draft as the franchise selected Utah State receiver Jalen Royals.
Coming to the Chiefs, Royals boasts 4.42 speed so he can get downfield in a hurry, but there is also another element of his game that we imagine head coach Andy Reid will look to exploit - yards after the catch.
“Trying to add couple yards to the catch and it's definitely been a factor in my game,” Royals said on his yards after catch ability. “I played running back growing up, so I'm used to getting some yards at the contact and yards at the catch, and just helping the offense maybe three yards each catch be helpful.”
As we know in the NFL, every yard is crucial.
Royals now comes to a Chiefs receiver room that houses Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Marquise Brown, and that is quite a group to learn from.
But Royals has his own bag of tricks too, able to be a productive weapon on the first and second level as quick, short throws to get him out in space to allow him to do his best work will be what Reid would like to do for his newest weapon.
Given the abundance of talent in the receiver room, we imagine Royals will start at the bottom and work his way up, with his yards after catch ability set to be on show when the Chiefs begin training camp.
