Goran Ivanisevic insists Stefanos Tsitsipas is still very much a top-10 caliber but also highlights that the issues that led to his current state need to be identified and then properly resolved.
In early 2024, the Greek tennis star exited the top-10 for the first time in nearly five years.
After having a down season in 2024, Tsitsipas' struggles extended into this year. While the former world No. 3 managed to win Dubai, it has been a pretty rough season overall as he is only 19-11 and has had a year full of early and disappointing losses.
Recently, the 2021 French Open runner-up suffered his earliest exit at Roland Garros since 2018 after losing to Matteo Gigante in round two. As a result, he left the top-20 for the first time in seven years and now sits at No. 25 in the world. The 26-year-old's lack of success over the last two years also led to claims that he is done as a player and that his window for winning a Grand Slam is closed.
Amid a rough 2025, Tsitsipas pulled a big move and hired Ivanisevic, who worked with Novak Djokovic for six years before leaving the Serb's team and having an unsuccessful one-month partnership with Elena Rybakina.
Ivanisevic: For me, Tsitsipas is a top-10 player any day... But I'm not a magician, it'll take time
“He is for me a Top 10 player any day. At the moment he lost that edge a little bit. A lot of things happened and now he has to find it back. I’m not a magician who can make it work after one week. It’s a long process, but he’s a great player. He was two times in Grand Slam finals and had so many great victories, so I’m not worried that it’s not going to come back," Ivanisevic told the ATP website.
Ivanisevic also said that he believes Tsitsipas has what it takes to be successful on grass and also added that he thinks they will have good chemistry because they come from the same Balkans region.
Meanwhile, their partnership started with a win after the Greek edged out Luciano Darderi 6-4 3-6 7-6 (5) in Halle.
