New Cowboys QB Joe Milton Issues 1st Comments On Dak Prescott

New Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton can't wait to get to work with Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys have themselves a new quarterback after trading for New England Patriots rookie Joe Milton.

With Will Grier as the Cowboys' only other quarterback on the roster alongside Dak Prescott, Dallas got its third before the draft. It was thought the franchise could take a quarterback to compete with Grier—they don't have to now.

Milton comes to The Star as a raw prospect who showed flashes for the Patriots with his rocket arm a feature.

For Milton, now that he's a Cowboy, it means sitting in the same meeting room with Prescott, something he's looking forward to.

"It's great, he's a great person," Milton said. "This is my second time meeting him, so just being around him I feel the great energy that he brings and just willing and look forward to learn from him and really compete."

No, Milton won't be taking Dak's job, so let's end all that silliness right now.

Joe is seen as a purely developmental player, and in an ideal world, he would usurp Grier as the No. 2 at some point in the offseason. If there were a game played today, it would be Grier who would start with Dak still recovering from his hamstring injury.

The Cowboys have contractual control over Milton for the next three seasons, which is ample time for him to develop into something tangible, and for you conspiracy theorists out there, Dak has an out in his contract in 2028, which is when Milton's rookie deal runs out. Make of that what you will.

But for now, Milton is going to be a sponge at The Star, soaking up every bit of knowledge he can as he looks to make his mark on new head coach Brian Schottenheimer's roster this offseason.

And getting to learn from Dak is just the cherry on top.
