It was a bad 2023 season for the New England Patriots, which has resulted in a lot of changes for the franchise. For the first time in a long time in 2024, Bill Belichick won’t be on the sidelines for New England.

Since Tom Brady left, Belichick and the Patriots have struggled, especially at the quarterback position. From Cam Newton to Mac Jones, to Bailey Zappe, the Patriots haven’t gotten what the franchise needed from the position to be successful.

As of now, Bailey Zappe is the only one of those three on the team still. The team moved on from Jones this offseason, trading him to the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, that might not be for long, as Bleacher Report recently named Bailey Zappe as a player who could be cut. Here’s what they had to say.

Bailey Zappe started two games for New England as a rookie in 2022 and six more in 2023. Now that the Patriots have pivoted to third-overall pick Drake Maye with capable veteran Jacoby Brissett as his backup, Zappe is unlikely to stick on the roster.

This offseason, the Patriots wanted to upgrade the quarterback position as they brought back Jacoby Brissett and then used the third overall pick on Drake Maye. Brissett has had success on the Patriots already and the franchise hopes one day Maye will be a star.

With both of those quarterbacks firmly on the roster, and a developmental prospect in Joe Milton, that leaves Zappe’s spot in trouble. For both Zappe and the Patriots, it makes sense for Zappe to move on elsewhere.

The Patriots have certainly given Zappe a good amount of chances in the last few years, but he unfortunately couldn’t get it done. Now, it seems like Bailey Zappe will likely be a player who is cut by the New England Patriots.
