New Lightning Defender Is Prime Breakout Candidate

This new Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman could hit a new level this campaign.

The Tampa Bay Lightning made multiple additions to their roster this off-season. Among the most notable new players on the Lightning's roster is defenseman J.J. Moser. He was one of the pieces the Lightning received back from the Utah Hockey Club in the Mikhail Sergachev blockbuster trade.

J.J. Moser files for arbitration and how it affects the Tampa Bay Lightning - Raw Charge

Moser has quietly put up some solid campaigns over the last few seasons. In 82 games with the Arizona Coyotes in 2022-23, he had seven goals and 31 points. He then followed that up by recording five goals and 26 points in 80 games this past season.

Overall, the 6-foot-2 defender has shown that he can produce decent offense from the point while also playing a steady defensive game. Because of this, Moser has the potential to be a very good addition to the Lightning's roster. This is especially so when noting that he is still only 24 years old and still has the potential to hit a new level.

The Lightning clearly see something in Moser, as he has skated on a pairing with superstar defender Victor Hedman at times this training camp. If he continues to impress, it would open the door for him to receive big minutes during the season. If he officially earns a spot on the Lightning's top pairing with Hedman, he could be in for a significant breakout season.

It will be fascinating to see how the promising defenseman performs in his first campaign as a Bolt from here.
