Bleacher Report's Alex Kay decided to name the five least desirable trade destinations in the NFL before training camp kicks off around the league. Unfortunately, New Orleans would be one of the named cities, along with Cleveland, Miami, and both New York teams.
Kay utilizes metrics like the club's B/R Power Ranking, coaching staff, roster composition, and salary-cap space, all sourced from Spotrac. And while this result could be expected, Kay acts as if the Saints have the plague. There are plenty of reasons as to why a player shouldn't feel upset if they were traded to New Orleans.
Saints roster is being underrated
For one, the Saints new head coach, Kellen Moore, was the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator last season and is coming off of a Super Bowl victory. All of that on top of the fact that he's consistently had the NFL's top offenses wherever he was coaching; the lowest an offense of Moore's has ranked is 18 (Los Angeles Chargers 2023).
Kellen Moore's new offense should be able to help many players on the team excel, but running back Alvin Kamara is expected to have a huge boost, potentially reaching 1,000 rushing yards in a season for the first time.
Moore understands the value of having a player like Kamara on the team. "A lot of people for a long time have been looking 'how can we find an Alvin on our football team?' So that's been a really important piece," Moore said during his introductory press conference. "It'll continue to be a really important piece, and we're really fortunate to have him."
The quarterback situation in New Orleans is not as bad as it seems from the outside, either. Both QBs, Second-year man Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough, have been lighting it up during the organized team activities and minicamp practices, leaving many veteran players looking forward to the upcoming season.
Wide receiver Chris Olave sees young players who are more than capable. "I feel like they've got a good head on their shoulders. They've got good IQ; they're ready to play NFL ball," Olave said during minicamp. "I'm excited for whoever gets that starting job; they're both really good. I'm excited for whoever gets that, and we're going to be ready for it."
