The New Orleans Saints have quickly filled a hole in their medical staff.
The Saints are hiring Boise State's Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance and Health and Wellness, Garrett Holle, per NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill.
New Orleans lost Johnathan Gress, who occupied the team's Director of Rehabilitation role since 2019, to the University of Oklahoma earlier in June. With the quick and immediate need for their medical staff, the Saints looked to the college ranks.
Holle was a quick riser in Boise State's medical staff, starting as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Rehabilitation Coordinator in 2023 before getting promoted in the same year and holding the role until the end of the 2024 season.
The Saints have struggled to stay healthy over recent years. From Michael Thomas to Derek Carr, there have been various stars who have suffered injuries and failed to find their way back to the field. The hope with Holle is that the team can have an immensely healthier season in 2025, following the new Director of Rehabilitation's lead.
Holle is significantly younger than Gress and will likely bring a new approach to the medical staff. While his youth can be seen as a positive thing, there's a lot of pressure on Holle to watch over NFL players' health after being an intern for Arizona State University, as early as 2023.
