The New Orleans Saints head into free agency with a lot of questions. Because of how they have chosen to manage their salary cap, they have massive questions all over the roster. This team is attempting to rebuild on the fly, keeping elite players while also trying to get younger in certain areas. New head coach Kellen Moore is fresh off a Super Bowl victory as an offensive coordinator and has the tall task of jump-starting this offense. The front office has given him a speedy weapon to work with, re-signing wide receiver Dante Pettis to a one-year deal.
New Orleans Saints Re-Sign Dante Pettis
Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reports it is a one-year deal for Dante Pettis. The former second-round pick played in all 17 games this season but didn’t produce much because of how bad the offense was at times. He caught 12 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown in 2024 after not playing at all the previous year. Pettis has bounced around teams and ended up with the New Orleans Saints after injuries decimated their wide receiver room.
Pettis showed promise in his rookie year, catching 27 passes for 467 yards and five touchdowns. He has never been able to duplicate that success and has bounced around the league since 2018. The New Orleans Saints hope they can tap into some of his potential. His speed is his greatest asset, and the Saints lack someone who can take the top off a defense. The hope is that Pettis can fill that role.
2025 Outlook
I have no clue what to think about this team. The only advantage the New Orleans Saints have is that they play in one of the weakest divisions in football. Alvin Kamara is still on the team and has shown elite ability out of the backfield. Chris Olave will hopefully be back and can stay off the injury list in 2025. Moore also has proven he can lead a variety of offenses to success. This will be a new challenge. Derek Carr will likely be the starter due to his contract. Can Moore get the most out of the veteran quarterback?
Final Thoughts
This isn’t a bad signing for the New Orleans Saints. One-year deals don’t usually hurt the salary cap much as there is no money tied up in future years. Will the Saints be able to resurrect the career of the speedy receiver?
