CBS Sports's Pete Prisco made his annual ranking of the NFL's top 100 players. Noticeably absent was New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
This comes as a surprise, as eight other running backs, Saquon Barkley (No. 3), Derrick Henry (No. 14), Jahmyr Gibbs (No. 32), Bijan Robinson (No. 39), Christian McCaffrey (No. 41), Jonathan Taylor (No. 50), Josh Jacobs (No. 66), and Bucky Irving (No. 94), made the list.
Despite his lack of an 1,000-yard rushing season, Alvin Kamara has done more than enough during his NFL career to not have nine running backs in front of him. He is also in position to have a career year in 2025, making the list even more confusing.
He has a total of 6,779 rushing yards and 60 rushing touchdowns, both team records, along with 4,762 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.
Kellen Moore will help Alvin Kamara
New head coach Kellen Moore, who spent the previous year as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, could really help Alvin Kamara have a career year in 2025.
Moore's system is made to support the strengths of his players while also having a strong passing attack and a diverse run game. In the wake of Saquon Barkley's 2,005-yard rushing season and the Eagles victory over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, it's obvious that Moore has the stuff it takes to run an NFL offense.
The future Saints Hall of Famer can feel the change in climate that has come with the new coaching staff. "It's bringing a new, kind of different energy to the teams that I've been on my whole career. It's been the same since I've gotten here," Kamara said during minicamp. "Now there's a change coming in. It's different."
Kellen Moore called Kamara one of the premier players in the league and is ready to utilize him to the fullest. "He's going to be a really big-time, impactful runner, running the football first and foremost. And then, obviously, his pass game, his ability to create matchups, is going to be a huge advantage for us." Moore said.
Kamara has impressed his new head coach with the mental aspect as much as the physical gifts. Moore raved about Kamara saying, "what's really fun about being around Alvin is that his mental capacity is really high. He understands football at a really, really high level."
