New report reveals how badly the Vikings wanted to sign Joe Flacco

Last week, Minnesota Vikings found out that Joe Flacco isn't going to be the team's No. 2 quarterback next season after it was announced that he had agreed to a contract with the Cleveland Browns.'

Joe Flacco is finally receiving his due. But he can't return to Browns next year - The Athletic

There had been some rumblings of the Vikings having interest in signing Flacco earlier this year, but no one really knew just how interested the team truly was in adding him. Well, that was at least until Tuesday, when KSTP's Darren Wolfson provided some new insight on the situation.

During an appearance on SKOR North's "Minnesota Sports with Mackey & Judd" on Tuesday, Wolfson revealed that Flacco and his representation were the ones who actually had the most interest in him signing with Minnesota this year.

"Joe Flacco's representation was trying to get Joe [to Minnesota]. [His agent] thought it was a very logical fit. He's got another big-time client [with the Vikings]. He loved the idea of Joe being [in Minnesota]. But the Vikings never took the bait. The Vikings did not make an offer in the end."

QB2 plans for the Minnesota Vikings clearly didn't involve Joe Flacco

While Flacco seemed like the perfect option for the Vikings to sign as McCarthy's backup this year to some, the team obviously didn't feel that way. So, for now, Minnesota's current quarterback room still consists of only McCarthy and Brett Rypien, who has only started four games since entering the NFL in 2019.

Could Rypien actually be who the Vikings enter the 2025 season with as the team's No. 2 signal-caller? Sure, it's possible, but even before then, Minnesota will need to add some additional members to the quarterback room just to have enough people to participate in OTA and training camp practices.
