New Steelers DT Daniel Ekuale Has Strong Message For Aaron Rodgers About Coming To Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have already had a notably busy offseason and free agency period, characterized by significant roster alterations and a consistent presence at the forefront of the media. A wave of new acquisitions has been made as the organization seeks to address the critical vacancy at the starting quarterback position, a void that has dominated much of the discussions surrounding the team. Leading these discussions is the potential arrival of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has a range of opinions among people. Some of the people have voiced support for Rodgers, acknowledging the undeniably impressive resume he has built over his 18 seasons in the league. Conversely, others are skeptical about his age as he enters the later stages of his career, as well as his well-documented and sometimes controversial personal conduct and off-field antics.

Among those who have publicly expressed a positive outlook regarding the potential acquisition of Rodgers is a recent addition to the Steelers, defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale, who joined the Steelers after previously playing for the New England Patriots. Ekuale recently made an appearance on the Chipped Ham & Football podcast, a production of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he conveyed his excitement about becoming a member of the Steelers organization. During this interview, Ekuale also shared his perspective on the widely discussed situation surrounding the potential signing of Rodgers, offering his opinion on the matter that has been a central topic of conversation throughout the Steelers' offseason.

"I'm hoping... he can come to the Steelers," Ekuale shared.

Despite facing some recent challenges and setbacks in his illustrious career, Rodgers, at the age of 41, currently holds the distinction of being the oldest active player in the league, a fact that understandably raises concerns among some of the Steelers' fan base. Furthermore, Rodgers recently demonstrated remarkable resilience in overcoming a significant Achilles tendon injury sustained during the very first drive of the 2023 season, an injury that sidelined him for the entirety of the season.

These recent physical hurdles and his age have understandably led some to question his enduring ability to perform at an elite level. However, Ekuale, entering his seventh season in the league, expressed a sense of admiration for Rodgers' demonstrated perseverance in the face of these obstacles. Ekuale conveyed his excitement at the prospect of Rodgers potentially joining the team, expressing a strong belief that the accomplished quarterback still possesses the talent, skill, and mental fortitude to make a significant impact on the field.

"I didn't know this dude still got it in him after that Achilles injury he had... but I think A-Rod still got it in him," Ekuale shared.

Beyond the considerations of his age and recent history of injury, another significant area of concern for some regarding the potential acquisition of Rodgers by the Steelers revolves around the uncertainty of his genuine desire to join the franchise. Ekuale, in his recent podcast appearance, even highlighted his own enthusiastic and immediate decision to sign with the Steelers upon learning of their interest from his agent, emphasizing his eagerness to become part of the Steelers' organization. While acknowledging the difficulty in directly comparing the situations of two different players in different situations, the prolonged length of Rodgers' deliberation is undoubtedly raising concerns among a portion of the Steelers' fan base.

This extended period of indecision is particularly interesting given the reports indicating that the Steelers have already extended a formal contract offer to the veteran quarterback and are currently in a state of simply awaiting his final response, leaving many to wonder about the underlying factors contributing to this prolonged waiting game.

Rodgers Has Support From Steelers Players

Ekuale's expression of support for the potential addition of Aaron Rodgers is not an isolated instance within the Steelers' organization, as he joins a group of current players who have publicly voiced their enthusiasm for the prospect. Despite reports suggesting that the Steelers have presented Rodgers with a contract offer spanning only a single year, maintaining their focus on getting a hopefully long-term franchise quarterback in either the upcoming NFL Draft this year or the next one, it is encouraging to see a unified front emerging from within the Steelers' organization. Prominent figures within the franchise, including the esteemed owner and president, Art Rooney II, have also shared positive sentiments regarding the possibility of Rodgers joining the team, a sentiment echoed by veteran leader and Steelers' captain Cam Heyward.

However, the ultimate decision rests solely with the veteran quarterback, and the nature of his intentions will remain unknown until he formally signs a contract or explicitly communicates his decision not to do so.
