NFC Champion QB Shouts Out “Balling” Jordan Love

After a rip-roaring second-half of his rookie season, expectations for Green Bay Packers quarterback, Jordan Love were akin to sky-high heading into year two.

Whilst he certainly didn’t play poorly in 2024, he didn’t quite hit the bar that he set for himself in the last few weeks of the 2023 season – although his quarterback rating was up by 0.6 across the totality of 2024 compared to 2023.

Much of that was attributed to an MCL sprain suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. And perhaps a quick turnaround – Love only missed two games, in which backup, Malik Willis went 2-0 in his stead – meant that the former Utah State star did not have time to fully recover from his injury.

Yet, even with all his ailments, the Packers went 11-6 and obtained a playoff spot. More recently, Love was voted to a spot in the NFL’s Top 100, coming in at a respectable #68. And Love’s former playoff foe, Brock Purdy, whose 49ers knocked the Packers out of the postseason in January 2024, had some very kind words for his NFC rival on Tuesday.

Brock Purdy Gives Praise To Jordan Love

“Jordan Love’s balling, I feel like he’s always got some highlight throw every week,” Purdy said to NFL Network, “I just respect how he goes about playing the quarterback position and going through reads and willing his team to win man. Respect him a lot.”

Purdy was not the only player outside of current Packers to say good things about the fifth year player. Former Green Bay running back, Aaron Jones – who has had the rare opportunity of having been on the both the same and opposite side of a Love-led Packers team – also added to the QB’s praises.

“His ability to throw the ball, he’s able to get it out quick.” Jones commented later on in the video, “He has a good understanding of the game, so he’s able to digest what’s coming at him. If it’s a blitz, he knows where his hot reads are. And he’s just a very smart quarterback.”

Towards the end of the short video, Jones revealed what may be Love’s most important trait on the football field – something that neither encompasses his physical attributes or academic understanding of the position.

“The confidence he has in himself.”

Will Jordan Love Get Back To His 2023 Best After 2024 Injury Issues?

It’s impossible to tell for certain what Love’s trajectory is for 2025, given the small-ish sample size of his work and the somewhat erratic “gunslinger” play-style. But it has been reported that Love was dealing with injury issues for essentially the whole season – so even if he is half as fit and healthy as he was in 2024, that could make the world of difference.

Although it has been stated as much in media and sports talk radio, the gulf between his late-’23 and all of ’24 form is not that substantial – either way he is a top-15 quarterback.

Everyone knows about how big an arm he has, and his ability to – as Purdy says, “make highlight reel plays”. The question now will be whether he is able to tone down his interceptions and unnecessary risks, and start to turn the corner into the level of the elite signal callers in the NFL.
