The Washington Commanders need edge rusher help. The New York Giants may soon have a plethora of them this offseason.
Something has to give.
Commanders general manager Adam Peters has always shown an ability and openness to try and cut deals with division rivals. Last season, he traded away a second-round pick to the Eagles, who ended up taking Super Bowl hero Cooper DeJean.
The team could be looking for something similar this draft cycle, except with the New York Giants instead.
New York holds the third overall pick in the 2025 draft and is choosing between quarterback Shedeur Sanders and edge rusher Abdul Carter. If the team takes Carter, it could leave former fifth overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux on the chopping block.
Thibodeaux struggled mightily during the 2024 season following an 11-sack season in 2023. The Giants may not want to move on from a player the current regime drafted, but they may not have the choice. The Oregon star is entering a key season where he is eligible for a long-term extension.
There's also the reality that the Commanders may not be a team that the Giants are looking to deal Thibodeaux to. They wouldn't want to give a former star on the team the chance to excel against them twice in the same year.
