The Washington Commanders were very intentional with who they wanted on their offense in 2025.
Despite a successful 2024 season led by rookie phenom Jayden Daniels, the Commanders wanted more firepower for their offense in a loaded NFC East. With top offenses like the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys gearing up for playoff runs, the Commanders knew they needed to address the skill position groups this year.
That is precisely why the organization traded for former San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel.
As ESPN's John Keim explained, the team's improved offense in 2024 wasn't as great as many perceived.
"The Commanders wanted to add more dynamic ability to their offense," Keim wrote "Washington's offense ranked 22nd in pass plays of 20 or more yards. To help, Washington traded for Samuel and drafted speedy receiver Jaylin Lane in the fourth round.
"In the past four years, Samuel has recorded 55 such plays -- 18th most in the NFL. But 23 of those occurred in 2021."
Samuel joins a receiver room with Terry McLaurin leading the way. Now that Samuel has been added, the Commanders have an offense that should be even better than they were last season.
They should be more explosive at the very least.
Will that be enough to get past the Eagles and Cowboys? That remains to be seen. At the very least, Daniels will have an offense that should be able to match his excellence in 2025.
