The analysts out there seem to be pretty split on Jared Goff. ESPN's Mike Clay projected that Goff would have the worst season of his career and Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema ranked Goff as his 16th best quarterback in the league. With the bad side out of the way, now Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport is projecting that Goff is about to go off and be one of the best quarterbacks in the league in 2024.
Davenport projected the stat line of every expected starting quarterback in 2024 and he gave Goff some pretty good numbers. Ok, maybe better than good. Davenport gave him some career numbers.
67.1 Completion percentage
4,713 passing yards. That would be a career high
31 touchdowns. That would be his second best
10 interceptions
Not bad at all. It's not hard to see Goff get that passing yard number. He was 138 yards away from hitting that last season. The completion percentage is a slight dip from his 67.3 last season, but it's still quite good. The 10 interceptions is pretty fair. Goff had 12 last season, but had seven in 2022 and eight in 2021. He Can get back to the lower numbers in 2024.
Now, the big thing is where does Goff fit in with the rest of the league according to Davenport's projections? Here's how it all lays out:
7th in completion %
3rd in passing yards. Mahomes and Stroud are the only ones ahead of him
Tied for fifth in touchdowns
22nd in interceptions
If Goff can have a year like this, there's no doubt that the Lions would be able to go out and be big time Super Bowl contenders like they're expected to be by many.
He has the offensive line, run game and maybe receivers to make it happen. If the Lions do something crazy like trade for Tee Higgins, then Goff could easily surpass the numbers that Davenport laid out for him. We're talking about the Lions having the most unstoppable offense in the league in that case.
