San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan went viral at the NFL's Annual League Meeting this week because of his appearance.
Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons before landing the head coaching job in San Francisco. In his first two seasons with the 49ers, he owned a 10-22 record. The roster had a ton of holes and the quarterback position wasn't stabilized until Jimmy Garoppolo got healthy. During the 2019 season, Shanahan showed what he can do with the right personnel, leading the franchise to a Super Bowl appearance. His squad ultimately fell short to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately for Shanahan, the 49ers lost to the Chiefs again in Super Bowl LVIII. It was a heartbreaking loss for the franchise, as Patrick Mahomes led his team down the field for a game-winning touchdown drive in overtime.
Despite having a 70-62 record and two Super Bowl appearances under his belt at the age of 45, Shanahan has clearly dealt with a lot of stress in the Bay Area.
Earlier this week, a photo of Shanahan when he first became the head coach of the 49ers was placed side-by-side with an image from the Annual League Meeting.
Obviously, it's natural for people to age during an eight-year span. NFL fans, however, are convinced Shanahan has aged faster than most people.
"Kyle Shanahan from 2017 to 2025. What eight years and two Super Bowl losses do to a man," an NFL fan tweeted.
"Crazy, being a Head Coach is brutal, Kyle looks exhausted and OTA’s not started," another fan said.
Shanahan is coming off a 6-11 season with the 49ers. There'll be pressure on him to get the franchise back in the playoffs next season, but that won't be easy since a plethora of impact players left in free agency.
As of right now, oddsmakers have the 49ers at 10.5 wins for the 2025 season.
We'll see if Shanahan bounces back this fall.
